The theme for the Fall 2022 Capstone Exhibition is “A Work of Art”. Our task was to find a piece of art (1960-present) and create a garment(s) that reflected the artwork. I chose a painting by Joan Miró titled Fireworks I (1974).

I created a wool crepe, black strapless evening dress with exaggerated pointed hips, horsehair covered satin boned-bodice and “fireworks” made out of craft wire, feathers and crystals.

I am extremely proud and honored to be chosen as one of the few to be showcased in the school’s gallery. Please go check out the exhibition, which on view December 7th 2022 through January 29th 2023.

The sketch I came up with for the final design of my garment.

Draping the skirt portion of the dress, which required understanding how to hold structure to the hip. I also created a curved seam on both the front and back of the skirt.
